What Apex is

Apex records, times and shows laps at amateur motorsport events. You record on a GNSS device or your phone, we turn the trace into lap times, and the venue running the day can show them on a screen.

Apex is not a race organiser, a sanctioning body or a scrutineer. Nothing here is an official result. A venue decides what its results are; we time laps and say how accurately we timed them.

Your account

One account per email address, and no password — signing in is a link we send you, which works once and lasts fifteen minutes. Keep your inbox to yourself, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you.

You can be given an account at a venue sign-on desk without asking for one. That account is yours to claim with the code on your slip, and until somebody claims it we treat what it recorded as belonging to a guest, which is described in the privacy policy.

Following, friends and anything else social stay switched off under 16. We ask for a birth year to know, and never show it.

Your laps, and the venue’s results

A lap time is the venue’s record of its event and stays in that event’s history. The telemetry trace behind it — twenty-five readings a second of where you were and how fast — is yours, and you decide who sees it and whether we keep it.

That split is deliberate and it cuts both ways: erasing you does not rewrite the results of a day that happened, and a venue keeping its results does not entitle it to your trace.

You choose who sees each outing: nobody, the people you have approved as friends, or anyone. New outings default to friends, and you can change one after the fact. Narrowing an outing stops it being shared from that moment; it cannot unshare what somebody has already seen.

How accurate we claim to be

We publish the measured error of each way of recording rather than a marketing figure, and How it works shows the numbers.

We do not rank laps recorded on a phone against laps recorded on a dedicated GNSS device. The difference in timing error is large enough that the order of such a board would partly reflect which phone somebody owns, which is not a fact about driving.

A lap time can change if a venue corrects its timing line or we improve the lap engine. When that happens the lap is re-derived from your original recording and stamped with which version produced it. Lap times do not change silently.

What we ask of you

Drive within what the venue permits. Apex is a timing tool, not a permission to do anything on track, and a lap we time is not a lap anybody sanctioned.

Do not use Apex on a public road as a performance timer, and do not operate a phone while riding or driving.

Do not upload a recording that is not yours, and do not use somebody else’s device or account to record laps as them.

What we will not build

No video. Apex does not record, host or synchronise video of you, and this is a permanent decision rather than a roadmap item.

No advertising, and no selling what we know about you to anyone.

No progress rings, completion scores or other measures of how much of yourself you have handed over.

Suspending an account

We can suspend or close an account that is used to impersonate somebody, to upload recordings that are not theirs, or to harass another person. Where we do, your lap times remain in the venue’s event history for the same reason they always do.

Changes to these terms

These documents carry a version — this one is 2026-08-21 — and we record which version you agreed to and when. You can see your own record on your profile page at any time.

When we publish a new version, your profile page will show that your agreement is behind and offer you the new one. We do not treat continuing to use Apex as agreement to something you have not read.
